The Octopus was a project done as a part of the SID project at Certec, Lund, done in a team of two. The project is in the context of the Snoezelen therapies, concentrating on children with autism or developmental disabilities. The project was oriented toward sensory triggers and stimulation and was done as a result of research around one specific child. The Octopus had many aspects including digital, motion triggered light sources in it’s tentacles, as well as the materials it was built with. The important things we needed to explore was the different interaction patterns that emerged, considering the disabilities of the child. I took part in the conceptualization, and building of the prototype (I built the internals and programmed the micro-controller), as well as the research and testing stages of the project.
